| Band of Thieves |
| blast from the past |
| by
Dan Berkman |
Hearing New York based rock group, Band Of Thieves, is like
getting transported back to the magical world of the early 70s. Almost miracolously,
there is no trace of new wave, punk, post punk or indie influences in the band's
sound: it is just pure blues/country based rock and roll. Band Of Thieves come
along as a reminder about all that was good in that era - bigger than life howling
frontmen, wild axe solos, and hooks so big and broad that everyone could dance
and sing along. The purity of their sound is intensely refreshing. While others
are trying to be scene, there is one band out there that is playing for the
fun and beauty of it.
Your music, although excellent, doesn't fit into the
archetypal New York indie sound, as such how have audiences responded to you
guys?
The NY audiences are definitely a bit surprised that we are
local, but its nice to see people actually smiling and dancing at a show in
NYC. Its like people kind of check their inhibitions at the door and just have
a good time.
If you had your wildest dream come true, who would
you love to open for?
Not involving a time machine? there are a bunch of bands that
i wish i could have seen, but the ultimate band to open for? The Stones in the
early 70s i guess, but really just for the backstage antics.
Plans for 2008?
After touring down to SXSW we haded into the studio in late
March to record full length album which will be ready soon.
