Monstro Flora is a band from Los Angeles with roots in Austin, TX and songs that reveal the not always pretty trail of late night drinks, loss, hope, wonder, recklessness, love, heart break and mystery, exploring both the beautiful and the terrible sides of experience. The band employs dynamic extremes of light and dark with a bold and at times delicately artful approach to pop sensible songs. While their recorded material showcases their uncommon songwriting ability and talent for studio arrangements, it’s their live show that carries the material to an exciting and passionately charged setting where they truly come together as a band.

The Carrions & Glass Goblins - 1/14/12

The Carrions are comprised of guitarist Cheryl Lindsey (The Breeders), bassist Sean Agopian (Exene Cervenka), drummer Steve DeLuca, and Lara Hermanson on keys. They play a brand of music they've dubbed Psychedelic Love Metal. Glass Goblins is a psychedelic rocknroll band led by guitarist 5-Track and their music is designed to tear a hole through the tiny strings that compose the cosmos and thereby to let that weird-colored light shine in from the far side of the multiverse. Also for you to dance to.The Outpost is the perfect place for conjuring sparks of the magic that once inhabited the legendary stages of the Fillmore and Winterland. Come experience it for yourself. Download Minor Me's "More Than a Million"

Audio: more than a million (MP3, 0.11mb) Download Now

By: minor me Website

Minor Me recently released a rough but compelling E.P. titled The Pressure / The Pleasure, and is offering it as a free download at their Bandcamp page. Led by wordsmith/songwriter Edgar Acosta, the L.A.-based band sounds like a punky, garage-y version of Death Cab for Cutie, and takes as its inspiration the musical stylings of Jack White, Kim Deal, and Leonard Cohen.Standout track “More Than a Million” reveals itself as the source of the E.P.’s title, as Acosta sings plaintively, “The pressure I feel, after revealing, after reveal / The pleasure you give is more than a million.” It’s an upbeat but wistful track that brings to mind the flashpan relationships we all have in youth, and yearning that can only be expressed in vocabulary as quick and deft as a pipe bomb. Click “Download Now,” enjoy, and stay tuned for a flurry of L.A. Minor Me shows in 2012!

Admiral Grey brings I Feel Awesome to west coast

Audio: Pray Don't Pray (MP3, 0.04mb) Download Now

By: I Feel Awesome Website

Admiral Grey comes out west this October with her new project I Feel Awesome. Formerly the bassist/vocalist for heavy postpunk mid-aughts band Drayton Sawyer Gang, her music dipped into lo-fi melodic territory with her solo project Duck and Swallow before bringing a big sound back to the scene with the otherworldly Glass Lamborghini.IFA is a merging of Glass Lamborghini’s futuristic sound with the minimalist sound of her simpler solo work, yet it occupies a singular space. Pounding a suitcase while incanting new wave tunes with existential lyrics along to polyrhythmic beats, Admiral employs casios to a spacial level in songs that are melodic, apocalyptic and tribal yet surprisingly bounce off of the tenets of pop and dance and ricochet back into experimental territory.

Inspired by our love of tuna fish sandwiches, pink gorillas, codeine cough syrup and bizarre art films, we put together this fine video to further introduce our tune "Green Light" to the Internet world. Being a very hands on sort of band, we just said screw having experience and decided to become video directors/writers/producers as well, why not? Rock musicians making their own music videos, it's gonna be amazing, right? We hope you enjoy it.

New (but actually old) Honest Iago track

Honest Iago have been working on a new record for a while, and to build a little buzz they have logically decided to release a very early version of their song "Less Martial Law, More Martial Arts." This version was originally recorded way back in 2007 for a compilation CD to benefit Doctors Without Borders in Darfur, and only 100 copies were pressed. You can download the track for free by liking the band on Facebook at facebook.com/honestiagomusic.

By: the band in Heaven Website

shoegaze/dream pop band in Heaven first music video shot on 8mm in California's now defunct Mannyland Ranchfrom the NorseKorea tape release Seven Minutes in Heaven :http://thebandinheaven.bandcamp.com/album/seven-minutes-in-heaven"If you dig the spacey, droning haze of NYC’s seminal Velvet Underground, Tx.’s primordial psych-pioneers the 13th Floor Elevators or even the dreamy revivalist mantras of such modern-day revisionists as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Brian Jonestown Massacre or The Warlocks, this buzzworthy duo will make you smile, nod out and fumble for a massive glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Their informed, crate-digger take on a genre which seems on the cusp of a major resurgence has all the lazy bombast of The Jesus & March Chain at their least “mature”: it’s a numbing wall of fuzzed-out bass, distorted guitar, combo organ and hypnotic, pounding drums drenched in echo and insouciantly bedraggled."

  College Radios
what can they do for my band?

In this day and age, we should be thankful that college radio still exists, static-y and awkward though it may be. While commercial frequencies pump the same boring playlists into every city, and in many cases have ceased to provide live, local DJs to give the station any personality (be it comments on local bands, events, or even the weather), college radio provides unique, local voices to the airwaves and internet. - read the rest of the article here.
