Los Angeles based City City makes Party Music

City City is an Electronic Rock band that makes energetic music. They infuse different time signatures and other weird elements to make a very intense ADD sound. Their guitarist/keyboardist just graduated with his Masters in Composition at UCLA. They are playing on Thursday August 28th at the Mint in Los Angeles.

5-Track Loves

Audio: Headlands (MP3, 2.86mb) Download Now

I eat music for breakfast. I swing from it on invisible ropes. The perspective that sees hands, fingers, guitar, amplifier is not the true perspective. This is merely the inner digestive workings of reality. From the outside, the proper p.o.v., it is clear that all of these things are ONE. I am from Vermont, by way of Seattle. Los Angeles is hot. It affects my music. Expression is an inevitable side effect of creativity. The kingdom of heaven is within. I play music for rooms, for open spaces, sometimes for people. People are often less appreciative, though I think they need it more. I am from the planet Neptune. I need water to live. Did I mention Los Angeles is hot? And dry. Love, 5-Track.

Olio - Living the Dream

What do a film composer, a D.J., and a director of music and arts have in common? Three brothers from other mothers (and fathers) got together, from the OC, ChiTown and DC,, to create a miscellaneous collection of musical works aka OLIO. Inspired by everything from Black Sabbath to Barry White these guys stir up an eclectic blend of music from hip-hop to funk, soul to rock and a dash of pop and serve it up nice and hot

Other People

Other People write songs that make you feel like you are watching a movie. Through your ears. On their forthcoming EP "your ticket out" each song reminds the listener of a time and a place, of the old neighborhood you grew up in, regret and betrayal, triumph and defeat and returning home after the whole world comes down around you. These memories may or may not have actually existed, but once you hear it, it's forever in your consciousness. The second track "Catch" is a train ride through long echoic tunnels which open up into endless wheat fields, full of bright bouncing guitars which transition into creamy rhythmic phrases topped off with shifting vocals and moods above a constant drum beat.

The History behind The Histories

Every once in a while, a band comes along that is so real, so honest, that you can't help but relate to them. The Histories are one of these bands. Maxwell Strachan is the mastermind behind this catchy raw emotive batch of songs concerned with the tales of losing friends, falling love, and living life. Maxwell became known in the LA music scene as the guitarist and keyboard player for the local pop band Yes Means No. After he moved to Berkley for school, The Histories myspace appeared with very rough recordings including "For Friends" which won Maxwell the hearts of everyone who heard it. His first EP, "There is Absolutely No Difference Between Anybody", tells the story of leaving home and the life you knew and having to grow up. "I find my music in things like getting old and dealing with that—the boredom and insignificance that develops after high school".

Milestone!!!

In the beginning there was a band... a band that discovered the secrets of fire, a band that crafted the first wheel from stone, a band that pioneered what is now called "Rock N Roll", and a band that mastered the masses with deep soulfull rhythms and shredding guitar riffs earning them praise among the Gods and common people alike.... however, Milestone is not that band, but they rock too! Emerging from different parts of Long Beach and the South Bay, Milestone has chiseled a nice little nook into the local rock scene for themselves with hard-working ethics, catchy tunes, killer live shows, and a little Luck o' the Irish. Since 2005 the band has been working hard to make themselves heard, playing hundreds of shows throughout Southern California as well as Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. In addition to their extensive stage exposure, Milestone has also been featured in independent films, on college radio shows, and in local news media, including an article in the South Bay Daily Breeze who say,"Out of Order...nicely sums up the band's slamming Social Distortion/Face to Face approach, with it's driving guitars and enthusiastic backing vocals propelling the catchy, high-energy tune. - Sam Gnerre." Recently, Milestone has self-released the Pan Fried EP which features 4 dynamic tracks that showcase the musical diversity and creativity of the group and has been gaining popularity through various online music communities as well as in the streets of SoCal. So if you are a fan of good music, cold beer, hard liquor, and great times then Milestone says, “Come to our next show!”

Soul Stylings from Austin Hartley-Leonard

Given the onslaught of over produced country pop, it’s refreshing to hear Austin Hartley-Leonard’s soulful country-folk sounds: smooth without being glossy, charged with emotion without coming across as contrived. At the root of the music is a quiet voice that delightfully recalls the late Nick Drake and tasteful acoustic guitar work delivered in a manner that makes you believe every sung word. Moving from Austin, TX to Chicago, to LA, Hartley-Leonard has been around, and the music reflects the sound of a traveler. Songs like “Years” and “24” carry imagery and an element of nostalgia that paints a vivid sense of place and time, whether with the jubilant innocence of youth or the pains of loss and wandering. Country can be a dangerous word to throw around, but this music is sure to appeal to hipsters and high school girls as well as cowboys. Despite the accessibility of the music, you get the impression that Hartley-Leonard isn’t trying to appeal to anyone at all—he’s playing for himself, and he means every second of it. Check out his down-tempo musings at the The Deli Magazine Release Party on July 26th and again on August 4th at Hotel Café.-Hannis Brown

Comfort Drag Video: Talons of Spring released the Comfort Drag music video (TOS’s debut music video). Planning a live show and screening of the music video at a venue to be announced in August. Video is directed by CHRIS CALZIA - http://www.myspace.com/chriscalzia : one of the coolest cats to work with as a genuine artist and trusted friend. Chris and I were focused on creating a story, a visceral pulse within the video (shot in black & white).

THE WILDER (Demo): This is still in its demo phase because we will be adding a live choir, piano elements, final vocals, and a new drum take to further heighten the song's dynamics and sonic range.

Crossing Highland: July 12 LA Show and August Tour

Pushed on their ideas and iconography, many bands crumple to reveal no more than a raw thirst for attention. But The French Semester appears to have done some homework. The foursome always foregrounded its own cosmopolitanism as if there was added-value and/or a little reflection of their sound. I caught up with the boys and learned they were indeed on to something. So often the "influences" list on any given myspace is either wholly irrelevant, or all too binding. And the gods of post-punk are surely frowning on LA's sustained, glossy revivalism while New York seems to have moved on. But in The French Semester I found a seamless blending of all they purport to hail from--which is a lot: Jesus and Mary Chain stitched with Daniel Johnston, The Clash with the Stone Poneys. And I realized that this kind of "blending" was precisely what made their story of countries far afield so telling. Combining the disparate cultures of 3rd world dystopia and American suburbia is not unlike that of delivering new music these days. Copy the masters and you've lost yourself in them. Stray too far from tradition and you're alone in your novelty. But weave together your roots in single, balanced fabric and realize it when you can: we are all immigrant rockers.... The French Semester will headline On the Rox Saturday, July 12 at the Roxy Theater and begins a West Coast Tour in August. See www.myspace.com/thefrenchsemester for more info and dates.

Patsy Moore Releases First CD in 15 Years

Audio: The Most Private Confessions of Saint Clair (MP3, 6.53mb) Download Now

Patsy Moore is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter who released two albums on the Warner Brothers label—"Regarding the Human Condition" (1991) and "the flower child's guide to love and fashion" (1993). Although numerous performers have covered her tunes since 1989, among the most notable is jazz world favorite Dianne Reeves—who, in 1999, recorded "I Remember" and "Goodbye" [on "Bridges"]. Her self-produced full-length recording "The Most Private Confessions of Saint Clair: Studio Renderings" was released in April 2008. Due to a series of setbacks, which included Moore's longtime battle with grave illness, the eleven-song project took nearly five years to complete.

Rock into The Sixth Chamber

6th chamberOften accused of being one of the most original sounding hard rock bands in Los Angeles, The Sixth Chamber has reached a milestone with its new EP, four addictive doses of sexually-charged and impassioned songwriting delivered via blasting vintage tube amplifiers, heavy rhythmic drive and soulful, belty vocals.

The recording was produced by Louis Castle and James Bairian, who were dubbed "sonic wizards" by the LA Weekly and praised for their work in Rolling Stone.

Vocalist Sevan Kand sings in a soulful and bluesy style inspired by vocalists from late 60s/early 70s rock and R&B. Some influences include Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Jack Bruce, Al Green, James Brown and Ian Gillan. Kand was born into a bohemian musical family, and his voice was used on recordings by gothic rock pioneers Christian Death as a small child.

Guitarist Rahne Pistor is a pupil of the Jimi Hendrix school of blues and psychedelic rock guitar, with the vintage hard rock edge of Tony Iommi, and he often adds mystical gypsy flamenco flare to his lead guitar. Pistor relocated to Los Angeles a few years ago from New Jersey, where in his teenage punk days he played bass in a band with members of The Misfits and Samhain.

Drummer Michael Ferrara articulates hard rock and blues-fueled psychedelic beats and surpasses in rock drumming skills many players twice his age.

Check out The Sixth Chamber at The House of Blues on May 15.

Heaven is Where - emerging band

heaven is whereFront man and guitarist Matt Lande, Justin Sena on drums, guitarist Conrad Bauer and bassist Daniel Nuno are Heaven Is Where. They’re bursting onto the Los Angeles music scene seemingly out of nowhere, but just maybe you've seen these guys separately, somewhere before. With an exciting live show and a smattering of musical influences all the way from Annie Lennox and Savage Garden to The Killers, Placebo, HIM, Muse and 30 Seconds To Mars, Heaven Is Where is reaching a large and varied audience. The intimate lyrics and passionate melodies along with keyboard and guitar driven music evoke a reaction between sadness and happiness...hate and love...loss and gain...hell and heaven!
